Context

Corporate Cthulhu is an anthology edited by Edward Stasheff & published in 2018.

Here are some notes I took while I read it with my book club.

0. Introduction

The introduction does a good job of showing how corporations & Lovecraftian horror blend naturally, are not an oil-&-water mix. (This surprised me. to be honest.)

1. Death Pledge

Landry grabbed Brenda, staining her. Matt tackled Landry, so he is stained, too.

Carter Investments correctly predicted that the mortgage market would crash. Others predicted it would grow. So C.I. is like our heroes from “The Big Short” book & movie.

Carter Investments is a reference to Randalph Carter.

Geometry that's wrong is a reference to “Dreams in the Witch House”, if I remember correctly.

Woah: What is the significance of Brenda's unconscious smart phone use at the end? Generically, it means that Yog has some control over her, sure, but is there something more specific? Like, does it rely on some detail earlier in the story that I overlooked or have forgotten?

2. Welcome to the R'Lyeh Corporation

Customers across space & time, some perished, some not yet born ⇒ reference to “Shadow Out of Time”

Customer base across the multiverse ⇒ reference to “Mozart in Mirrorshades”

Prior to 2 * 10-12 seconds after the Big Bang, time & space were more guidelines than rules ⇒ Brill humor!

Cause & effect are enemies of innovation ⇒ More brill humor! I love it!
